This chapter explores the cultural construction dementia set in the country of Brazil and focuses on heroic tales of grandchildren acting as caregivers. This work uses these stories to provide a critical perspective on the “personhood” approach to dementia as applied to this country and asserts that the stories may in fact reflect fallacies of care.
